With the avocado, I stray from local — and probably from short supply chains too (one middleman at most). Sometimes you have to enjoy good things that will never grow where I live. And in winter, we need foods with good fats, which pair so well with kiwis, clementines, bananas…
Buy it from a greengrocer. With a quick press of the thumb, they’ll tell you whether it’s good for today, Tuesday or Thursday… It’s reassuring, and it works out cheaper too.
As soon as you’ve cut it, squeeze some lemon over it so it keeps its lovely colour.
