Eco-design statement

Service publisher: Kilomètre-0 Association

Service concerned: Kilomètre-0 website – https://www.kilometre-0.fr/

Date the declaration was drawn up: 18/07/2026

Reference framework: The French General Eco-design Framework for Digital Services (RGESN), 2024 version – 78 criteria spread across 9 families (Strategy, Specifications, Architecture, User experience and interface, Content, Frontend, Backend, Hosting, Algorithms).

Kilomètre-0 is a digital service run by a non-profit association. As such, it is not subject to the obligation set out in France’s REEN law (on reducing the environmental footprint of digital technology). This declaration is therefore a voluntary undertaking, in keeping with the site’s editorial line (seasonal cooking, short supply chains, anti-waste) and with the restraint that line implies for the media outlet itself.

Purpose of this service

Kilomètre-0 is a food blog and media outlet that publishes recipes cooked from seasonal, local produce sourced through short supply chains. The site holds around 5,200 recipes, organised by season, by ingredient, by category, by type of dish and by cuisine, rounded out by a seasonal calendar and by articles and themed features.

Its purpose is to reconnect everyday cooking with seasonality and local production, and by extension with environmental, health and good-eating concerns. The project aims to grow into a food media outlet built around these issues.

Target users: home cooks looking for ideas suited to what’s in season; people wanting to eat more locally, more healthily and with less waste.

Relevance of a digital service (a Strategy-family criterion): the large-scale sharing of seasonal cooking know-how, updated every week and searchable by ingredient or by season, justifies a digital medium. In return, the service commits to limiting its footprint through the design choices described below, so that the outlet stays consistent with the message it carries.

Strategy in place and objectives for reducing or limiting environmental impacts

The aim is for the site to remain usable on older devices and under varying connectivity conditions, while limiting the resources called upon with each visit.

Structuring choices already in place:

  • Lightweight, privacy-respecting analytics. Audience measurement is handled by Matomo, rather than a third-party advertising solution.
  • Semantic, lightweight front-end. Skip link (“Skip to main content”), semantic HTML structure, breadcrumb trail, and several paths to the content (season, ingredient, category, cuisine) to shorten the journey to the right recipe and reduce the number of pages loaded.
  • Structured content. Recipes expose structured data (ingredients, steps, nutritional values, reviews), which makes it easier to get straight to the useful information.
  • Consent management through a tag manager that limits the loading of non-essential scripts.
  • No attention-grabbing tricks: no auto-playing videos, no infinite content wall, no intrusive notifications.

RGESN assessment

Not carried out

EcoIndex score: E

This measurement was taken on a typical recipe page.

Most of the optimisation to be done concerns the Google Funding Choices tool tied to the use of AdSense on the site. The plan is to replace this service with another consent manager to improve the score.

Minimum configuration required to access the site

  • Supported user devices: any mobile or desktop device from 2015 onwards.
  • Minimum connection for comfortable access and use: 3G on mobile.
  • Adaptation to different screen sizes: yes, minimum screen size of 320 pixels wide.

Improvements identified

The areas below were identified while reviewing the templates.

  • Advertising and consent. The Google Funding Choices consent-collection system accounts for a significant part of the DOM loaded by the site. Replacing it is a priority.
  • Caching and compression. Put a caching system in place on the server so as to limit the computations performed.

How this declaration was drawn up

This declaration was drawn up on 18 July 2026. It will be updated after each new audit or significant change to the site.
